Graduate Aims

Our hope for children who graduate from Kamal Vidya Niketan is that they,

  1. Achieve Holistically - We hope for children to be at par and outperform on our holistic learning standards that cover academic, physical and socio-emotional domains.

  1. Impact Locally - We hope that children solve problems in the community through their yearly capstone community projects.

  1. Thrive socio-economically- We hope that our graduates end the vicious cycle of poverty for themselves and their families by getting employed in careers of their choice.

Key Learning Experiences

Students at KVN will immerse themselves into learning holistically and will go through five key experiences throughout their school journey.

Experience 1: The MJR Cycle

What does this look like: There are three elements to this KLE. At the 'Map' stage, children design a life-cycle style map for their quarterly learning goals. For this, they look at their learning goals for the quarter and also take into account their personal goals. Using that, they chart out a path that they will follow for 12 weeks to be able to meet their goals. Next, at the 'journal' stage, children maintain a portfolio throughout the quarter (which is also their quarterly assessment). In this portfolio, they journal and collect evidence of their learning throughout the quarter based on their map. They have the choice of crafting this portfolio in whichever manner they want. Finally, at the 'reflect' stage, they enter an appraisal-style conversation with a three-member team ie their teacher, a peer and a young adult from the community. In this conversation, they look at their portfolio and compare that with their map to reflect on their progress in the unit.

Experience 2: Student Union Elections

What does this look like: The student union elections provide a dynamic and participatory learning experience, allowing students to engage in the democratic process within the school community. Students will have the opportunity to nominate themselves for various roles, such as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, fostering leadership skills and a sense of civic responsibility. The process includes campaign periods where candidates present their visions, ideas, and plans for enhancing the student experience. Students actively participate in voting, learning about the importance of making informed decisions and respecting diverse opinions. The experience extends beyond formal roles, encouraging collaboration, teamwork, and communication skills among students. Through this democratic exercise, students not only contribute to shaping the direction of the student union but also gain valuable insights into the principles of democracy and the responsibilities associated with leadership roles.

Experience 3: Community Projects

What does this look like: In the community projects learning experience, students leverage the design thinking process to identify and tackle a pressing issue within their local community. They begin by exploring and empathizing with the community, conducting research to define the problem. Through brainstorming sessions, they generate innovative ideas, select a solution, and create a prototype. This prototype undergoes testing and refinement based on real-world feedback, leading to the implementation phase. Students actively reflect on their experiences, learning from both successes and challenges. The project culminates in a community presentation, allowing students to share their solutions and celebrate the positive impact they've made, fostering essential skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and empathy.

Experience 4: Passion Exploration

What does this look like:  The nurturing passions learning experience unfolds as a dynamic journey where students embark on a quest to discover and develop their unique interests. Beginning with activities to unearth individual passions, students explore a rich tapestry of subjects and activities, guided by exposure to guest speakers, hands-on projects, and enriching field trips. Once passions are identified, students delve into passion projects, delving deeper into their chosen areas with the support of mentorship and guidance. The learning experience seamlessly integrates passion exploration across different subjects, fostering cross-disciplinary connections. Showcasing their projects to the school community becomes a celebratory moment, reinforcing a sense of accomplishment. Reflection sessions and goal-setting discussions empower students to articulate their learning and plan future steps in their passion pursuit. Flexible learning pathways accommodate diverse styles, while community engagement activities allow students to share their passions beyond the classroom. This long-term developmental approach inspires intrinsic motivation, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning, recognizing and celebrating the unique journey of each student.

Experience 5: Career Exploration

What does this look like:The career exploration learning experience begins with an introduction to the concept of careers, guiding students through self-reflection to identify their interests and strengths. It incorporates various elements, such as career talks, panels, field trips, and virtual tours, exposing students to diverse professions and real-world work environments. Through classroom projects, research, and guest speaker series, students delve deeper into specific careers, fostering a comprehensive understanding of different industries. Career fairs and mock interviews provide interactive opportunities for students to engage with professionals and build practical skills. Additionally, the process includes discussions on skills, education requirements, and goal setting, empowering students to make informed decisions about their future paths. This holistic approach aims to inspire curiosity, ambition, and a sense of purpose as students navigate their educational and professional journeys.
